The Global Transboundary Conservation Network offers expertise and guidance on all aspects of transboundary conservation planning, management and governance. It brings together more than 200 experts in transboundary conservation. The network was launched at the Vth IUCN World Parks Congress.

It is facilitated by Transboundary Conservation Specialist Group of IUCN WCPA (World Commission on Protected Areas). IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network with a membership of more than 1,000 organisations and 10,000 volunteer experts organised through six Commissions.

The mission of the Transboundary Conservation Specialist Group is:

"to promote and encourage transboundary conservation for the conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values while promoting peace and co-operation among nations, through enhancing knowledge and capacity for effective planning and management of transboundary conservation areas, in fulfillment of the Durban Action Plan and CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas."
